Poetrypalooza CommitteeZZyZx WriterZ
ZZyZx is a diverse group of writers from Los Angeles who meet to share and critique eachother's work such as poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction. We also dab into other cultural media and creative projects with other local artists such as film, scriptwriting, songwriting, music, visual art, etc... Encourage membership with more local writers, public readings, fundraising for community writing workshops and our first Anthology! We float in that midpoint between nothingness and inspiration...ZZyZx www.facebook.com/ZZyZxWriterZ Event Director/ZZyZx PreZKimberly Cobian-Writer
The brains behind the brawn of Poetrypalooza! Kim wants to share her poetry and help others while doing it. She is an active educator, writer, and belly dancer. Fascinated by the gypsy proverb: "How can you walk straight, when the road bends", she believes artists do the same in their life whether its making it or creating it, the soul knows which is the tacho drom, or the truest path. She anticipates Poetrypalooza will unite and nurture all who share their gifts and attend this celebration unique to Los Angeles. Favorite Poems: "The Weary Blues" by Langston Hughes, and "Romancero Gitano" by Federico Garcia Lorca, AND "Full Moon and You're Not Here" by Sandra Cisneros. Event Public Relations
Henry Chow's position reminds others and himself to stay connected with friends, family, and people within the community. Chow's strong connection with people is drawn from his early conscious memory after witnessing his own parents and neighbors' parents working extra hard to keep food on the family table, and forgetting - most of the time - to take care of themselves too.
Chow is an educator and a writer. He enjoys a game of golf and pool with friends and family. Chow also has a community blog called, Lincoln Press, on Wordpress. Memorable poem: "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. |
Event ProgrammerRae Shaw is a filmmaker, educator, artist and writer, and she is now remembering that she is also a poet. Rae has written several scripts that have gained recognition including “Salsa Millenia” and “Repass” and is also the award-winning writer-director of the short, Soap and Roses.” She also has a multitude of experiences writing and creating educational programs, and for each of her films, has designed an educational component for children. Rae just may be caught at Poetrypalooza reading from her dusty collection of unpublished poems, but you will definitely find her running around with a clipboard and pen. She will also direct scenes from her script “Salsa Millenia” during the program. Her personal thought for the program: love changes everything. Favorite Poem: Hard to choose one: Anything by Rainer Maria Rilke; EE Cummings’ “I like my body” and Linda Pastan’s “love poem"
